A month’s rain fell in a few hours in South Yorkshire. Many areas of Sheffield and Rotherham were flooded. Most of Rotherham was without electricity.
This is one of the main roads in Rotherham, between Parkgate and the town centre. The police are warning the van driver and his friend that the road ahead is completely unpassable. But he’s just determined to prove a point and give it a go! So he charged in, only to have to turn around a few seconds later…

Sunday 24 June 2007 – Day 28 of my Project 365.
It has been a night of very heavy rain. The town’s road drainage systems were overwhelmed and this morning we woke to find a lot of the roads were flooded. I guess the drains get blocked with leaves etc. and can’t cope when there is a downpour. Good trade for the drain-unblocking business though.
Some roads were impassable. There were traffic jams everywhere as people did their best to negotiate the flooded roads. It was quite a considerable task for the police to supervise and monitor the situation.
More rain is predicted for tonight…
Friday 15 June 2007 – Day 19 of my Project 365.
This man turned up and started digging a big hole in the road! Not sure exactly what he’s doing, but he’s sure made a real mess. I hope he clears it all up when he finishes.
